I've met folks ...

WHO THOUGHT THAT IN ORDER TO BECOME A BETTER BIRDER OR ENHANCE THEIR CONNECTION WITH NATURE THEY EITHER:

  • Had to run around the world with a detailed checklist wearing a multi-pocketed vest.
  • Had to be obsessed with birds since they were really young.

THANK GOODNESS ~ THAT'S JUST NOT TRUE!

YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE GOOD,
YOU JUST HAVE TO LOVE

It doesn't matter if you've spent 20 years watching birds or 20 minutes...

THIS FESTIVAL IS GOING TO TRANSFORM THE WAY YOU KNOW BIRDS

WHAT YOU'LL EXPERIENCE AT THE FESTIVAL

AT A TYPICAL FESTIVAL, YOU OFTEN ONLY HEAR FROM EXPERT BIRDERS.
However, at this virtual festival ~

YOU'LL GET TO LEARN FROM SOME OF THE WORLDS LEADING
ARTISTS, SURVIVALISTS, PHOTOGRAPHERS, SCIENTISTS AND CONSERVATIONISTS.

Don't worry. For those die-hard birders out there, we've got bonafide bird nerds here for you too.

We’re talking about 12 experts in their fields,
ready to help you expand what you thought was possible, learn practical skills and fall even more deeply in love with the world of birds.

DURING THE VIRTUAL FESTIVAL WE'LL UNCOVER STORIES LIKE ~

  • The Ancient Art of Hunting With A Trained Raptor: A female falconer from the UK unpacks what it takes to work with these independently-minded animals.
  • What To Do When You Can’t Identify A Bird?: World-renown birder, author and artist, Kenn Kaufman, shares his Top 4 recommendations.
  • Survival Expert & Star Of The History Channel’s “Alone Show”: reveals how a nightjar once saved his life.

  • The Secret to Telling The Difference Between A Male & Female Sandhill Crane: without using field marks as a clue.
  • Seeing Life - Not Death: through the eyes of a fine art taxidermist.
  • The Unexpected Favorite Prey of The Swainson’s Hawk: during spring migration. Large groups will gather to eat this unusual menu item.

WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS?

KRISTI DRANGINIS

GREAT QUESTION! Hi. My name is KRISTI and I am the founder of Bird Mentor, where I teach advanced skills to beginning birders all around the world through engaging courses and events. I have been actively involved in the birding and nature skills community for 25 years, working with casual birders, educators, and industry leaders.

After years of mentoring a diverse range of students, an unexpected pattern emerged. I found that many of my students felt excluded from the birding world because they didn’t believe they fit the traditional birder mold, and therefore didn’t identify themselves as birders. The truth is, these folks were as devoted to learning about birds as any traditional birder I knew.

To give these students, and the hundreds of thousands of people silently believing they too don’t belong, an opportunity to see what the varied faces of birding looks like, and to learn from some of the greats…I created this virtual festival.

Register today and come get your bird love on with us.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the festival look like each day?

Each day, I will release 4 prerecorded interviews conducted between myself and one of our expert speakers beginning at 7 a.m. EST. All interviews for that respective day will be released at the same time.

These interviews are grouped according to the type of content they cover.
a. Artistry – Speakers who are masterful in their artistic expression in the world
b. Mastery – Speakers who are either professional ornithologists or who have made working with birds their life’s work.
c. Intimacy – Speakers who have devoted their life to the practice and education of deep nature connection.

*Each morning of the festival Molly Tsongas, from Audubon California, will be facilitating LIVE virtual bird sits.
*Enjoy "Dinner with Kristi" live each night to discuss what you learned that day.
*Plus, there will be Special Live Programming throughout the festival with our sponsors.

How long do I have to watch the interviews?

You'll get access to the speaker interviews through Sunday, January 30th. The first group of interviews will be released starting Wednesday, January 26th.
